With heads held high

Although they again suffered two defeats on the last matchday against St. Wendel (11:2) and Floorball Mainz (13:4), their performance and fighting spirit were much more appealing, especially in view of the last matchday. There were also flashes of footballing ability (not to be confused with kung fu) on this last match day of the season.

The first game started in the middle of the day at 1pm in beautiful Mainz. After scoring 2 goals, St. Wendel took a relatively quick lead here, but Stephan was able to reduce the deficit to 1:2 with an inspiring solo run through the entire St. Wendel defence. However, St. Wendel then pulled away: They scored three more goals in the next five minutes before Thomas was able to reduce the deficit after 11:31 minutes. Not much happened after that until the break, meaning that the second half started with a 2:5 deficit. However, St. Wendel's technical class then became apparent and they pulled away completely, losing the game 2:11. Of course, it should not be forgotten that Thomas was voted our MVP of the match after not only hitting the goal once, but also the post and crossbar twice more.

The second game was against the beautiful Mainz itself. To everyone's surprise, the team from Darmstadt took a 2:0 lead against the future league champions after 4 minutes with goals from Stephan and Tim A. After an initial shock, Floorball Mainz quickly recovered from this deficit and scored 7 goals before both the Dukes through Jonathan and Mainz scored once more before the break and went into the break with a 3:8 lead. Jonathan scored another goal in the second half, but Mainz scored five more times to lose the game 13:4. Our goalkeeper Luca was honoured as the most valuable player in this game. The defeat was also overshadowed by an injury to Björn in the first half, who had had a strong day up to that point.

So the Dukes have achieved something historic this season, a season with 10 games and 10 defeats. The coming season promises to be a better one than the last one.

It's also worth taking a look ahead to the start of the match-free period in the summer: the Darmstadt team finally has the faint hope of moving into a new hall with improved training conditions. Furthermore, the first big Darmstadt Dukes bike tour is on the agenda to keep fit.
