Successful match day in Gießen

The Dukes returned from the second matchday in Gießen with two wins and second place in the table behind the Espenau Rangers. In the two exciting matches against the teams from Taunusstein-Neuhof and Griedel II, the Dukes came out on top by two goals each.

In the match against Taunustein-Neuhof, defence dominated the game on both sides for a long time. It was not until the 13th minute that Rhea Riegler made it 1:0 for Darmstadt. The game was evenly poised until the 18th minute, when the score was 2:2. Thomas Krenn scored the second goal for the Dukes, who then scored another goal together with Eirik Falk to give the Dukes a 4:2 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Dukes were able to extend their lead significantly by the 5th minute. Two more goals from Thomas Krenn and one from Johan Strandgren gave them a seemingly safe 7:2 lead, but the valiantly fighting team from Taunusstein-Neuhof closed the gap to 7:5. It was not until Björn Dürrbeck made it 8:5 with just under two minutes to go that the game finally became safe. A further goal from Taunusstein-Neuhof was then only a correction of the result.

In the second match against Gießen II, goals were also scored late in the first half. In the 14th minute, however, Robert Moissl struck twice and Markus Müller followed immediately afterwards. Shortly afterwards, Eirik Falk made it 3:0. After the break, it was Eirik Falk again who increased the lead to 4:1 after the Giessen team had scored the equaliser. The final goal from the Dukes' perspective was then scored by Thomas Krenn with Austria power to give them a three-goal lead again at 4:2. Giessen only managed to make it 5:3 a few seconds before the final whistle.

The two victories were based not only on the impressive goals scored by the four line-ups, but also on the solid defensive formation and, in particular, the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Martin Lexa.

On the next matchday on 12 November in Espenau, the previously unbeaten team from North Hesse will be a tough opponent. The second match will again be against Taunusstein-Neuhof.
